I wrote this after listening to some of Alan Lomax's old field recordings of blues singers. I pictured myself a black slave woman looking for salvation at a church on the hill. Just started humming the melody and the words came quickly.
lyrics
Gotta go up to the house today
Gotta go up to the house
Gotta go up to the house and pray
Gotta go up to the house
Gotta go where God live today
Gotta go where God live
Gotta go where God live and pray
Gotta go where God live
Preacher gonna wash my sin away
Preacher gonna wash my sin
Preacher gonna wash my sin today
Preacher gonna wash my sin
Gotta go up to the house today
Gotta go up to the house
Gotta go up to the house and pray
Gotta go up to the house
Preacher gonna save my soul today
Preacher gonna save my soul
Preacher gonna save my soul today
Preacher gonna save my soul
Angel gonna walk me home today
Angel gonna walk me home
Angel gonna walk me home I pray
Angel gonna walk me home
Angel gonna walk me home today
Angel gonna walk me home
Angel gonna walk me home I pray
Angel gonna walk me home
Gonna walk me home
Gonna walk me home
Angel gonna walk me home
Angel gonna walk me home
Angel gonna walk me home
Angel gonna walk me home
